all about the Children

The current tourist boom in nearby Labuan Bajo is placing strain on Kokotuku's three fishing villages: Pontiana, Medang, and Pasir Panjang. In these rapidly-changing times, the villages need assistance to adapt and prosper, while retaining their unique culture. We believe that respect, empathy, and prudence are paramount when planning infrastructure for the future.

SPORTS FOR KIDS

The Kokotuku Sanctuary Consortium recently launched a football club for village children. We built a clubhouse, donated football gear, obtained a shoe sponsorship from Adidas, and provided experienced coaches. Along with solid football skills, the kids of Kokotuku are learning important life skills like teamwork and discipline. The football community, named 1.FC PAPAPOM, has thirty-six members – twelve children from each village between the ages of eight and fifteen.

BUILDING ON EDUCATION

We believe that education is the key to creating a sustainable future. We've already begun building a new village school, and are providing learning tools to aid in students' environmental education.

ORGANIC GROWTH

We created an infrastructure framework which will allow Kokotuku's villages to grow organically, at their own pace. The framework proposes a plan for the future of the villages – including priorities and budget proposals for the school, a health center, jetty repairs, waste control management, and sports facilities.
